Tommy Bolt organizers thank community

Thursday, July 5, 2012

116 players competed on 29 teams to celebrate the 9th annual Tommy Bolt Memorial on Saturday June 23, 2012.

As has been true in the past, the event was very well received as area golfers enjoyed the challenges presented by the championship Cherokee Village South Golf Course.

Teams included local players, and several from communities throughout Arkansas and surrounding states.

This year financial support included 20 Major Sponsors, 40 Tee "Hole" Sponsors, and the 116 participants playing on the 29 teams. Among the Major sponsors were Hole-in-One Sponsors MidLake Marine of Cherokee Village, Mark Martin Chevy, Buick, GMC of Ash Flat, and Freedom Ford of Melbourne. Bronze Level Sponsors were: FNBC, Hometown Radio, Liberty Bank, Spring River Chronicle & Cherokee Village Alderman Russ Stokes.

"Hole" Prize Competitions were again held on all 18 holes. A $20 cash prize was awarded for the following contests: Longest Drive Men Only, Longest Drive Women Only, Longest Drive Men and Women, Longest Putt made, Closest to the Pin, Closest to the Pin 2nd Shot, and Closest to the Pin 3rd Shot.

The event benefits Fountain Place, a senior Independent Living Christian Retirement Center in Cherokee Village.

Though not all returns are yet in, it is estimated that net proceeds of the tournament will be over $6,000. As a federally recognized 501-C-3 entity, donations are tax deductible.

To secure additional information about the Tournament, or about residences available for rent, the public is invited to call Tournament Chair Steve Thompson at 870-257-5777 or Managing Director Pam Guidry at 870-257-2000.

The Committee would like to invite the public to put the 4th Saturday in June 2013 (June 22) on their calendars, and plan to participate in the tenth annual Tommy Bolt Memorial.
