At the recent Alton Alumni Dinner, Alton School Foundation President Wendell Williams presented Gary Simpson the Foundation's Alumni of the Year award.

Gary was a 1959 Alton graduate. While in high school he was active in FFA, holding local chapter offices and achieving the honor of FFA State Farmer.

Gary married his wife, Deane and, following his father's footsteps, they have run the family business for 48 years, as well as having been married 48 years. They raised son, Keith and daughter, Holly, who continues to work in the Simpson's Hardware business. Holly and Keith's children have all attended Alton Schools.

Long before the Foundation was formed, the Simpson Family has been strong supporters of the school with time, energy and money. After the foundation was started, they began the Pig Project in 2009.

It has grown, giving many FFA students an opportunity to raise and show pigs at the local fair. They have also helped donate facilities for some students to raise their pigs.

Donations were also made to the Special Education Program and, this year, they gave their first FFA Vo Ag Scholarship, and have funded it for next year.

To recognize people who have graduated from Alton and have continued to generously give back is one of the Foundation's most meaningful missions.
