Thayer School Board members have approved the federally mandated five-cent increase to lunch prices.

The increase is a result of the interim rule titled "National School Lunch Program: School Food Service Account Revenue Amendments Related to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010."

Any district receiving federal funds for their food service account, who do not charge $2.51 for paid lunches, is required to adjust their weighted average lunch price, said Thayer Superintendent Don Chappelle.

The five-cent increase will make the cost of lunch for students $1.85 per school day, and $2.10 for adults for the 2012-2013 school year.
