Excitement is building as the Izard County Fair draws near. We want to let everybody know some of the approaching entry deadlines, and a rundown of the schedule of events so everyone can come out and enjoy it!

The fair will kick off Tuesday, Aug. 7 and run through Saturday, Aug. 11. All entries for the creative arts and livestock are due Wednesday, July 25.

All entries will need to be done online, but if you need assistance or don't have access to a computer, please call our fair manager and she will be glad to help. Please call 368-4140. The deadline for the Moss-Gallegos scholarship application is also due on July 25 and you may find it on our website at izardcofair.org.

Furthermore, those entering the County Bred need to have county bred validation signed and postmarked by July 25. All livestock entries must be paid for by Aug. 1.

Start getting prepared for the beauty pageants. This year we will have three different entry forms. One for the 0-13 yr. olds, the 14-16 yr. olds, and the 17-21 yr. olds. These forms and rules can printed from our website at izardcofair.org or picked up at Pit Stop in Melbourne. The deadline is Monday, Aug. 6 without a late penalty fee.

Here is the schedule of events and entertainment for the week:

Wednesday night Aug. 8th is Community Appreciation night, and gate admission is FREE. Star Amusement Carnival will be on the Midway and the swine judging starts at 7:00 p.m. We want everyone to come celebrate!

Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. is the talent show at the amphitheater, and the sheep judging will be at 7:00 p.m. in the show barn. Beginning at 8:00 p.m., get ready for some nonstop action in pro bullriding at the NFPB Bull Bust by Hall Rodeo Co. This will be located at the Rebecca Moser Hickerson and Don W. Watson Arena.

Friday night the beauty pageants will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the amphitheater, as well as the Junior Cattle Show. Starting at 8:00 p.m. we will have LIVE Music on the Midway next to the carnival. Come bring your lawn chairs and enjoy some great local musicians as they show off some unbelievable talent.

This year we are featuring Deadwood Groove, Garrett Duncan (G-Man), and David Lynn Jones. Deadwood Groove is a local band from Melbourne and they will have you toe tappin' if not on your feet! Garrett Duncan is a 12- year-old young man and a fabulous guitarist that can play frets on a guitar and, well, can play about anything.

Most are familiar with the well-known name, David Lynn Jones. He is a talented songwriter and singer and has played with some of the likes of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. He still has many fans out there, and we welcome them all to come listen and enjoy him and all the talent that will be on stage!

Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. is Youth Activities Events. Bring the kids for some fun filled outdoor games. There just might be water involved since it is August.

Then the carnival will open from noon until 5:00 p.m. with special armbands for the day and the kids can ride until their hearts content or their stomach is sick.

The carnival will open again at 6:00 p.m. for all to enjoy and the beauty pageants will begin at 6:00 p.m. as well at the amphitheater.

Kicking off at 8:00 p.m. at the arena will be the one-and-only rodeo put on by Hall Rodeo Co.

Let's make this year a huge success and keep building up the county fair. Come join us and pay at the main gates and go to everything inside.

Admission for teens and adults will be $6, 6-12 yrs. old $3, and under age six is FREE.
