Letters to the Editor - Week of Aug. 1, 2012

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Dear Editor,

With interest, I read the Letter to the Editor from Thomas H. Pope of Cherokee Village in the July 19, 2012 issue of The News.

Looking back in history, this could have been written by many Native Americans who were experiencing the unjust "annexation" of their land by "thieves."

To quote Thomas H. Pope: "Theft is the general term and larceny is the legal term for the unlawful or felonious taking away of another's property without his consent by the use of violence or intimidation."

Hurts, doesn't it?

My husband and I are residents of Cherokee Village. My husband is also Native American. "Annexation" in the current Cherokee Village political scene is nothing in comparison to the theft of land from the First Americans by Europeans. How does it feel?
