On Wednesday, July 25, a Lawrence County jury convicted former Evening Shade resident, Curtis Gene Richey, 37, of four counts of rape and sentenced him to 35 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. The jury sentenced Richey to 10 years on each of the first three counts of rape, to run concurrently, and 25 years on count 4 to run consecutively with counts 1-3. The jury only deliberated for 52 minutes before rendering its verdict.

The charges stem from a case where a sixteen year old female alleged she had been molested since she was a child, and divulged she had also been raped by Richey, who now lives in Imboden.

In June of 2011, the female victim was interviewed by Jim Milam, an Arkansas Crimes Against Children (CAC) Investigator. She informed detectives of the alleged incidents beginning when she lived in Evening Shade.

She told the detective, Richey would take her to an empty trailer near her home, and sexually molested her "countless times."

The victim said Richey threatened her if she were to tell anyone about the incidents.
