Local runner participates in Australian races

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Levi Jenkins, a member of the Koshkonong Bluejay cross country team during the 2011-2012 school year, was invited by Down Under Sports to run on the Missouri cross country team in Australia.

Jenkins accepted the invitation and did numerous fundraising events to be able to make the trip.

Jenkins would like to say a huge "Thank you" to anyone who supported his efforts. It took help from many different businesses and individuals to make thetrip possible.

Levi spent six days in Australia, where he competed in two different races.

The Gold Coast 5.7k health challenge was the biggest race during his stay, in which he placed 106 out of 4,000+ runners. He says "It was an honor to represent my state in this event."

Jenkins says this was the "trip of a lifetime" and a "very awesome experience". It took a lot of hard work to get to this point, but the Down Under participants were allotted several hours of free time, in which they were able to experience a Sydney day tour, along with many other exciting adventures.

Before arriving home, participants also made a three-day stop in Hawaii, where they enjoyed the experiences of Waikiki.
