Some Alton mail destroyed in letter carrier vehicle fire

Thursday, August 2, 2012

On Tuesday, July 25, a US Postal Service letter carrier's delivery vehicle was destroyed in a fire that occurred as she was on her delivery route in Alton. The carrier was not injured in the vehicle fire.

The carrier had completed 70 deliveries along her route, but still had about 250 deliveries to be made. The Postal Service sent letters to each of the customers along the carrier's delivery route, alerting them that their mail -- including some outgoing mail -- might have been destroyed.

Impacted Alton customers with questions or concerns are asked to contact the Postal Service's Consumer Affairs office in Kansas City, at 816/374-9186.
