The Cherokee Village Lions' Club conducted sight screenings for children who attended the Annual Backpack Giveaway hosted by First Assembly Church in Highland on Aug. 4.

At the Giveaway, children had the opportunity to receive a backpack full of school supplies, a new pair of shoes, a haircut, a wellness check, and many other services that are very beneficial to the children just before starting a new school year.

Lions checked the children using sight acuity machines and eye charts.

Any child who demonstrated problems during the screening was referred to their eye doctor.

If families needed assistance getting their child to an eye doctor, they were referred to Lion Nancy French.

The Lions Club is an international organization whose motto is to serve, every day, everywhere.

As the local Cherokee Village chapter, we strive to promote and host events that benefit our communities and residents.

If you are interested in learning more about the organization that brags a large number of members worldwide, including celebrities such as Doctor Oz, please attend a meeting or call us.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 5 p.m. at Words/Afterwords in Hardy.

You may call Lion President Amy Driesel at 257-5967 or Lion Secretary Vickie Rice at 856-2983.
