First Assembly of God to hold 3rd annual Shoe Giveaway

Friday, August 17, 2012

For the third year in a row, First Assembly of God, Salem, Arkansas, is giving away shoes to children--over 200 pair--Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, from 10 am-12 pm at the church, located at Highway 62 East and Pinto Place, in Salem.

The shoes will be given away on a first come, first served basis. "It was such a success the past two years, and we wanted to continue to have an impact on our community, so we decided to do the shoe giveaway again. The giveaway is just in time for children who will be starting school" said the Rev. Kenn DeShane, the church's pastor. "We know that parents are in the "back to school" mode, and what better way to help parents and local children out than to give a pair of shoes to them?"

This project is part of the church's missions emphasis. "We enjoy doing mission work and have done projects in Mexico as well as in Corning, Ark, and Dearborn, Mich., but we also enjoy doing outreach here at home," DeShane said. "Jesus tells us in Matthew that when we do works of compassion to "the least of these," then we have done it unto Him. We see Salem and the surrounding communities as part of our mission field."
