Back to School information for Izard County Schools

Melbourne High School will hold an orientation for all incoming 7th grade students, as well as any new high school students, on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the high school. Orientation for 9th graders will immediately follow.

Mount Pleasant Elementary will hold its annual open house, along with a meeting and reception, on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will begin with an introduction of school staff to be held in the cafeteria, with a brief explanation of the Federal and state programs that support the district and individual schools.

A presentation of the Common Core Standards and the PARCC Assessment will be given. Teachers will then greet parents and students in their classrooms.

Izard County Consolidated Schools will begin the 2012-2013 school year on Monday, Aug. 20. Grades K-4 will attend classes at the elementary school at Violet Hill. Grades 5-8 will attend classes at the middle school in Brockwell. Grades 9-12 will attend classes at the High School in Brockwell. The district also has a pre-school for ages 3-5 at the elementary campus in Violet Hill. Regular school hours are 8 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Lunch prices for grades K-12 are $2 and reduced 40 cents. Breakfast prices for K-12 are $1 and reduced 30 cents.

The 2012-2013 school calendar includes the following: Labor Day, Sept. 3; Parent/Teacher Conference, Oct. 25; Fall Break, Nov. 12; Thanksgiving, Nov. 21-23; Christmas, Dec. 21-Jan. 1; March Break, March 7; Parent/Teacher Conference, March 14; Spring Break, March 18-22; Good Friday, March 29; High School Graduation, TBD; Last Day of School, May 28.

The high school, middle school and elementary school open houses will be Aug. 16 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. New students may register from now until Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The districts annual public meeting will be Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
