Children's book authors to speak at Ash Flat Library

Friday, August 24, 2012

Stella Hash and Lexie Nicholson, guest authors of children's books, will be at the new Ash Flat Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sign books.

"The Christmas Caravan" by Stella Hash is the story of Moses, the mouse, and his family. They are hungry and in their quest for survival, they become friends with Bazel, the camel. Together they journey to Bethlehem following an eastern star. Come and experience their fear in the sand storm, get lost with them in the desert, and finally, stumble into the humble stable wherein lies the baby Jesus, the little king they have been searching for."

"Cotton Harvest" by Lexie Sullivan is a realistic middle grade novel set in the Arkansas Delta in the early 1960s with main character, Sally Carson.

Sally and her family, fresh from modern life in a northern industrial city, must spend the autumn picking cotton and living in the middle of cotton farming country.

Conflict arises as they share an old run-down farmhouse with two other families. Sally locks horns with the hateful, lazy Jackie Davis, who takes pleasure in antagonizing her.

But the girls' common affection for a neglected and abused young boy eventually forms the basis for an unexpected friendship."

Stella Mary Hash was born and raised in Southeast Oklahoma. She is a retired school teacher. Teaching was a blessing to her and it was one the things that inspired her to write. In 1997 she and her husband moved to Cave City, Ark., to farm with his aging parents, where they raise Braunvieh cattle. From teacher to farmer was quite a transition, but she has grown to love it. She and her husband have four children and five grandchildren.

Lexie Sullivan is a retired elementary school teacher. She lives with her husband, Maurice, on the family farm at Calamine, Ark., when they're not reading, gardening, or traveling,

Lexie and her husband love spending time their family and enjoying their three grandchildren. They are actively involved in their church and love their church family. Lexie's experiences teaching fourth grade students in public school piqued her interest in writing. Retired now, she has time to do the writing she's always wanted to do. Although a work of fiction, "Cotton Harvest" is based on Lexie's experiences as a teenager picking cotton in the Northeast Arkansas bottoms.

The new Ash Flat Public Library cordially invites everyone to the book signings, Saturday, Aug.25.
