Ozarka College is going down under this semester to bring culture and a healthier lifestyle to students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
Thanks to a grant sponsored by Arkansas Blue and You Foundation, the Australian Walkabout Fitness Challenge will push participants to "travel" 8,675 miles collectively around the island continent.
Registration is free for everyone and will include a wellness bulletin along with a vacation itinerary for each major milestone city in Australia, including cultural facts, healthy activities and sensible dining options.
The final destination will be Melbourne, Australia and a celebration with unique Australian cuisine will be held at the main Ozarka College campus in Melbourne, Ark.
Each person will commit to a number of miles they will travel over the next 13 weeks.
At each campus location, the top two participants with the most logged miles will win a prize. Everyone will be recognized for his or her efforts.
The challenge will end Nov. 10.
Ozarka College will also host International Days later in the fall semester at each campus. Additional cultural displays and lectures will be presented over the course of the week.
