According to Fun and Friends Administrator Donna Stout, over 200 meals were served, and over 20 items raffled off. The event raised $1,717.00 for the center.
When asked about what the money will go towards Stout said, "The center is responsible for all building costs and repairs, and vehicle repairs and insurance. We are also in need of a new van for our Meals on Wheels program."
Stout, center workers and volunteers prepared for the event for over a month. Sheriff George Underwood donated and prepared the fish with help from "Big" John Wrenfrow. M & M Tackle, Palace Drug Store, Fin to Fur, Hirsch's, Pet Hines, Gene Blankenship, Daisy Mulkey, Bernise Rogers, Washam Salvage, Wal-Mart, Riverbend Restaurant, H.A. Cover and Son, Thayer Decorating, Thayer Fabric and Rug, Oxford Health Care, and Complete Care were among individuals and businesses that donated items to be raffled.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by The Brothers Quartet, made up of the Holman and Howell families, Joy Collins and son, Greg, and guest singers Mike Crawford and Jeff Collins. Darrell Johnston of Thayer Music provided the sound system.
Many people from the community volunteered their time to help with the event. "There is no finer place to live than in the Ozarks. The Fun and Friends Senior Center is truly grateful to each and every person who gave to us with love in their hearts," Stout said.
"We had a packed house full of smiles, laughter, singing, great conversation and of course great food," said Stout. Because of their success with their first fundraiser event, Thayer Fun and Friends Senior Center is currently working on plans for another fundraiser.
