Kyle Mooty has been named the managing editor of Areawide Media's newspapers -- The News, the Villager Journal, and The South Missourian News.
Niki de Soto, the former managing editor, has accepted a position working in Little Rock.
Mooty is in his 33rd year in the media business, having worked in five states. The former general manager/editor of The Madison County Record and sports editor of the Northwest Arkansas Times in Fayetteville, he comes to Areawide Media from Little Rock, where he was the news editor of the Daily Record in Little Rock.
"Areawide Media has afforded me the opportunity to return to what I have enjoyed most in my line of work," Mooty said. "Community journalism has been the most rewarding part of my professional experience, and to be able to do it in this part of the country makes it all the more attractive."
During his career, Mooty has won 69 editorial and design awards from state press associations.
"Our newspapers at Areawide are very fortunate to have Kyle at the head of our news department," said Ron Kemp, regional vice president for parent company Rust Communications. "His experience and talent will help us tremendously in our goal of publishing the best newspapers possible for our readers and advertisers."
Mooty has two daughters. Candace attends the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, while Shelby attends John Brown University in Siloam Springs.
