For the first time this season, all four area high schools won on Friday, Sept. 28. Three of the four did so in dominating fashion. Overall Highland, Melbourne, Salem and Thayer destroyed Brookland, Green Forest, Augusta and Cabool by a total score of 143-38.

Highland remained undefeated on the season by stomping the Brookland Bearcats 46-12. Highland is now 5-0 this season and 2-0 in conference play.

Salem also remained unbeaten by knocking off the Augusta Red Devils 41-6.

The Thayer Bobcats have now won two straight games after losing the previous three. The Bobcats beat Cabool 36-6 and only allowed the Bulldogs to score in the fourth quarter after all starters had been taken out. Thayer improves to 3-3 on the year.

Melbourne had the closest call this evening when the winless Green Forest Tigers came to town. After pulling ahead to a 20-0 lead in the third quarter, the Tigers controlled the clock and scoreboard for the last five minutes of the third quarter and the first 10 minutes of the fourth. A failed fourth down conversion attempt by the Tigers sealed the fate of Green Forest and the Bearkatz were able to snap a two game losing streak with a 20-14 win.

That's all for this week. Make sure to check out the Oct. 3, edition of the Villager Journal and the Oct. 4, editions of the South Missourian News and The News for full game stories on all of this week's match-ups.
