Local stores prepare for Black Friday sales

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

This year, the official kickstart of the holiday season will began just hours after the last turkey and dressing settled and the pumpkin pie was put back into the refrigerator. So whether or not you plan to take part in the scavenger hunt many deem Black Friday this year there are many local options that will save residents both gas and those dreaded black toenails from being ran down by misguided shopping carts.

Black Friday isn't for everyone. While for larger ticket items such as electronics, it is almost impossible not to have to shop at larger retailers, and in Sharp County, many locals are also employed by the retailer which helps with the counties tax base.

But after the large items are neatly packaged under the tree, that probably also was a good deal on the Black Friday Sale, many opt to shop at smaller stores because they like to search for unique gifts at good prices. Often shoppers want to do just that, shop, as many do not know what type of gift to buy until something catches their eye. Everyone does not have a pre-planned gift list and, instead enjoys the quietness of small shops that offer things as unique as those for which they are shopping. Unique gifts are a special part of Christmas and whether it be handmade items in Hardy or hard to find jewelry, candy, cell phones and clothing in Highland to western wear, snazzy purses and home decor in Ash Flat, our area boasts a wide array of options.

There is a wide array for home gifts in Hardy's many quaint shops, that will surely satisfy even the most discriminate buyer. Perhaps a day shopping without the crowds in Sharp County will take away of bit of the inevitable holiday stress that seems to kick in as soon as the first set of 500 Christmas lights is discovered not working.

By beating the huge crowds and heading out to some of the local businesses that support our local economy all year, the meaningful gifts can be more appreciated by both the buyer and the receipeint. Remember, these small businesses are the lifeblood of our community and they are owned by the people we all live and work with every day of the year. So, whether it's a candle, or a specially framed piece of art, one-of-a-kind items are available without ever leaving the comfort of Sharp County.

Anyone can give mass produced gifts, but the personalization of something more unusual will likely be a favorite of many on your gift lists and who knows the person receiving the gift may in turn shop for you at the same place.
