Seven area schools are participating in the annual Lyon College Tournament in Batesville. These schools, spread throughout three Arkansas counties are Highland, Cave City, Melbourne, Calico Rock, Salem, Viola and Mammoth Spring.
On Dec. 1, the Cavemen senior boys knocked off Heber Springs 62-37, to advance to play Concord, who received a first round bye. Also on the boys side, Harding Academy proved too much for the Mammoth Spring Bears, who fell 52-50.
Calico Rock's senior boys advanced to play either Salem or Mountain View in the second round by beating Melbourne 55-51. The Lady Pirates weren't as successful, as Melbourne's senior girls won 48-21 over Calico Rock.
In the girl's bracket, Salem beat Mammoth Spring 46-37 to advance to play either Pocahontas or Viola.
Heber Springs' girls proved more successful than the boys, and pounded the Highland Lady Rebels 52-14. They will face off with Cave City in the second round. The Lady Cavemen beat Greers Ferry West Side 52-35.
Because of our press deadline, we are unable to provide results for the remaining first round games, to be played on Dec. 3. Look for a full tournament wrap up in next week's issue of the The News.
