Many area teams started the Lyon College tournament, but by tournament's end only one local team stood on the podium.

The Cave City Cavewomen handled every team in their way until they went up against the Cedar Ridge Lady Timberwolves in the finals. It was a close game, but Cedar Ridge proved to be too much for the Cavewomen. Cedar Ridge took home top prize with a 43-36 win.

In the girls' bracket, Melbourne advanced to the second round after beating Calico Rock 48-21 on Dec. 1, but the Lady Bearkatz couldn't stop Southside, losing 47-38 in the second round. Cave City stopped Southside's run in the semi-finals by beating the Lady Southerners 49-36.

The Highland Lady Rebels fell in the first round to Heber Springs, 52-14; while Highland's boys were defeated by the Timberwolves in Highland's second game of the season, 63-35.

The Viola Lady Longhorns and Salem Lady Greyhounds fell to a common enemy. Pocahontas knocked off Viola 62-54 on Dec. 3, and crushed the Lady Hounds 51-20 on Dec. 6, in the second round of the tournament. Salem advanced to the second round by beating the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears 46-37 on Dec. 1.

The Bearkatz and Pirates also faced off in first round of the boys tournament, this time with the Pirates sending the Katz packing with a 55-51 win. In the second round, Calico Rock went up against the eventual tournament champs, the Mountain View Yellow Jackets. The Pirates played Mt. View closer than any other team in the tournament, but lost 45-41.

The Yellow Jackets sent the Salem Greyhounds home in the first round, by beating the Hounds 67-34.

Mammoth Spring's boys had a similar fate as the Lady Bears. The boys team lost a close one to Harding Academy, 52-50 in the first round of the tournament.

The Viola Longhorns stomped the Southside Southerners 57-37 in the first round, on Dec. 3. But the Horns couldn't stop Cedar Ridge in the second round, and the Timberwolves advanced to the semi-finals by beating Viola 48-38 on Dec. 6.

The Cave City Cavemen knocked off Heber Springs 62-37 in the first round, but fell 75-70 to tournament runners-up, the Concord Pirates.

The Cavewomen featured two players in the girls All-Tournament team. Sophomore Shyanne Price and junior Jamie Holley joined Ashlynne King of Southside, Liz Henderson of Cedar Ridge, and Courtney Baltz of the Pocahontas Lady Redskins.
