Veterans at Eaglecrest, Ash Flat Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Spring River Therapy and Living Center in Salem got a special early visit from Santa on Dec. 17.

Jack Lowe, President of the Cherokee Village Business Association and board member of the Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce served as Santa along with his elves from the Highland Elk's Lodge.

Veterans in the nursing facilities were given gifts of lap robes, shirts, socks and other items they need in their daily lives.

The group thanked each of the veterans for their service to the country and wished each a Merry Christmas. Nancy Anderson, a civil service veteran said it made her feel so good that people were so nice. She was extra thrilled when she opened her gift of makeup and said she could not wait to have some one help her put it on.

Others received soft lap robes with depicting each of their respective branch of military service. Army Veteran Charley Stevens was thrilled with his western shirt and all were especially thankful for the gifts.

Lind is the chair of the Elk's Lodge Veterans Commitee and visits the nursing homes on a regular basis throughout the year and helps with the organization of events to honor these men and women.
