Tuesday, January 8, 2013

A two vehicle accident in Highland on Dec. 27 resulted in serious injuries to a Hardy man.

According to an accident report from the Highland Police Department, Kathleen E. Gillihan, 52, of Cherokee Village was traveling eastbound on Highway 62/412 in the center lane when she attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 175 in her 2003 Chevrolet Pickup, and failed to yield the right of way to Dennis Lukehart, 52, of Hardy.

Lukehart was driving in the westbound inside lane on Highway 62/12 in his 1992 Chevrolet pickup when he was struck by Gillilan. Gillilan did not have a green turn arrow on the traffic signal when she collided with Lukehart.

Gillilan was transported by Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Services and later Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for serious injuries she obtained in the accident.

Lukehart initially refused treatment at the scene but was later transported to the hospital by Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service.

Gillilan was cited by the Highland Police Departments Chief Jeremy Stevens for failure to yield with an accident.
