Agnes Yvonne (Mies) Heineman,"Vonnie," was born on Jan. 8, 1929 in Pontiac, Ill. and died on Satuirday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Overland Park, Kan. She was born to Joseph and Marie Mies. She grew up near the farming community of Fairbury, Ill. and attended Pontiac Community High School. Vonnie graduated from Lewis University in Joliet, Ill. in 1973 with a BA in Education. She was passionately dedicated to teaching 4th grade at Dwight Elementary School in Dwight, Ill. Upon retirement in 1994, Vonnie enjoyed living in Cherokee Village, Ark. with her husband Lloyd. Since 2002, she resided at Freedom Pointe, an assisted living community in Overland Park, Kan. where she spent her remaining years very involved in activities designed for socialization amongst her fellow residents. She initiated a Red Hat Society at Freedom Pointe and was an active advocate for all of the residents she lived with during her ten years there. Vonnie enjoyed laughing with friends and family and loved the numerous former students and colleagues who maintained regular contact with her through email and Face Book correspondence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Mies, and her husband, Lloyd Heineman. Survivors include her son, Greg (Tricia) Bednarik and her grandsons Brent (Rose) and Blaine of Fort Worth, Texas, her daughters, Joelyn (Martin) Anderson of LaSalle, Ill., Jayne (Tom) Bruno of Olathe, Kan. and Kathleen Bednarik of San Mateo, Calif. and her younger sister, Karen Ferguson of Pontiac, Ill. Those who were lucky enough to share life with Vonnie will miss her greatly. A private service will be held with family members, and she will be laid to rest in Cherokee Village, Ark. with her husband Lloyd. (Arrangements: Muehlebach Funeral Home, 816-444-2060)
