Izard County Invitational begins at Melbourne

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Four classes and seven local teams are involved in the Izard County Invitational Tournament being held at Melbourne High School this week.

The Cave City Cavemen do not have first-round opponents in three of the four brackets. The Cavemen get a first round bye in the senior boys and girls brackets, as well as the junior high boys bracket.

In the senior boys bracket, the Calico Rock Pirates also get a first round bye. Depending on the results of the first round games, Cave City will play either Melbourne or the Salem Greyhounds. The Pirates will face either the Izard County Cougars or Rural Special.

The senior girls division has Cave City and Melbourne with first round byes. Either Rural Special or Calico Rock will face top seeded Cave City on Jan. 23. Melbourne will face the winner of Salem versus Izard County.

Melbourne or Salem will face the junior Cavemen on Jan. 23, and either Calico Rock or Rural Special will face the junior Cougars.

The junior Cavewomen face off with Calico Rock to determine who faces Melbourne on Jan 23. The Salem junior Lady Greyhounds face either ICC or Rural Special in the second round.

The championship round starts at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, with the junior girls division followed by the junior boys. The senior girls division championship game will start at approximately 7:00 p.m., and the senior boys will close out the evening and tournament at approximately 8:15.
