Edith Dolores (Fischer) Strain was born the daughter of John B. Fischer and Hazel (Harrison) Fischer on Oct. 25, 1918 in Belleville, Ill., and departed this life Oct. 25, 2013, at Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, Mo., at the age of 95 years.
She was united in marriage on Nov. 14, 1944, in Geneva, Neb., to James Robert Strain who preceded her in death on April 22, 1996.
She is survived by two sisters, Janet Smith of Vinton, Va., and Joan Veath of Belleville, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Daphene Gordon of Fielding, Utah; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Fischer; her husband, James Robert Strain; one brother, James W. Fischer; and five sisters, Martha Ehret, Mary Howard, Ethel Fischer, Valeda Koderhandt and Harriet Fehlker.
Edith was a charter member of the Couch Methodist Church, and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed quilting and needlework, and was employed by Puritan Fashions garment factory in Thayer for many years, working as floor supervisor.
She will be remembered as a loving sister, a caring aunt and will truly be missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Strain were Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Jeannette Bragg officiating.
Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Couch Community Church, St. Jude's Chidren's Research Hospital or the Gideons and may be left at the Funeral Home.
