Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Feb. 15 is the official first day of Mardi Gras 2014, and to celebrate, all are invited to sample locally available craft beers and specially prepared foods to help a worthy cause at the 2nd Annual West Plains BrewFest, on Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Exhibit Hall at the West Plains Civic Center.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the West Plains Council on the Arts and the Gatewood Family Fine Arts Scholarship, awarded to an area graduating high school senior planning to major in fine arts. The event is being sponsored by the West Plains Council on the Arts, Great Rivers Distributing, Grellner Sales and Services and Piney River Brewing of Bucyrus.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample craft beers from independent breweries including Mother's Brewing and Springfield Brewing of Springfield; Broadway Brewery and Rock Bridge Brewing of Columbia; Public House Brewing Co. of Rolla; and Piney River Brewing of Bucyrus. Grellner Sales is bringing representatives from Boulevard of Kansas City; O'Fallon Brewery of O'Fallon; Samuel Adams of Boston; Leinenkugel of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; New Belgium of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and Blue Moon, a product of Miller Coors national brewery. Great Rivers Distributing will feature specially selected craft beers from Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis.

In addition to the sampling, attendees will enjoy a variety of locally prepared hors d'oeuvres from area restaurants, in keeping with the Mardi Gras theme. The first 250 people through the doors will receive a souvenir tasting glass.

Admission is $20 per person in advance and $25 at the door. All attendees must be over 21 and have a valid photo ID. Advanced tickets can be purchased at the West Plains Civic Center box office or Party Pantry, located at 1460 Gibson Ave.
