Lady Greyhounds receive city wide send off to state

The Lady Greyhounds played in the first round of the 2A state tournament in Lepanto, Ark. The Lady Hounds played against Pangburn and were defeated 6-5.

Softball coach, Tesa Nelson, couldn’t be more proud of the team or their accomplishments.

The 2017 softball season for the Lady Hounds came to a close on Thursday, May 11. These softball players fought hard all game, just like they have all season. “To see the amount of fight and heart that all the Lady Hounds show is truly amazing! Going to miss our #5, #7, #23 and #33. Their season might be over but they have many things to be proud of for this year: Overall Record: 23-5, 19 game win streak; Co-Conference Champs; District Champs and undefeated at home,” said Nelson.

Students at Salem Schools, along with businesses and individuals in the city, lined up on campus and around the square to “send off” the Lady Greyhounds as they traveled to state play-offs. The Lady Greyhounds played in the first round of the 2A state tournament in Lepanto, Ark. The Lady Hounds played against Pangburn and were defeated 6-5.

The stats are as follows: Allyson Walsh went 2-4 hitting; Emily Pate went 2-4 hitting with 1 RBI; Bailey York went 1-4 hitting with 1 RBI; Kendra Rich was 1-4 hitting; Erin Cameron was 1-3 hitting (solo home run); Lindsey Smith was 1-3 hitting, double; Beth Thornton was 1-3 hitting; and Rory Walling was 1-3 hitting with a 2 run home run. All Conference Selections are: Allyson Walsh, Kendra Rich, Erin Cameron, Lindsey Smith and Emily Pate. All Conference Honorable Mention is Bailey York and All State is Erin Cameron.

Lady Greyhound softball coach, Tesa Nelson, was named District 2A-2 softball coach of the year.
