Concord knocks off Lady Cougars in second round of state play
The Concord Lady Pirates appear to be headed on another deep trip through the Class 1A State Softball Tournament.
Concord (29-3) which has played in the last two state championship games - falling in both - knocked off the Izard County Lady Cougars, 11-1, in the second round of the state tourney, May 11 at Pine Bluff Regional Park.
Lizzie White paced Concord with three hits.
In the opening round May 4, the Lady Cougars used a dramatic late-inning rally to ease past Hampton, 5-4.
Izard County was one out away from going home, down by two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
But that turned out to be no big deal for the Lady Cougs.
Natalie Everett started the rally with a single, before advancing to second base on a groundout from Harley Thomason.
With two outs in the frame, Shelby Morris blasted a triple that plated Everett to tie the game at 4-all.
One pitch later, Morris scored the winning run with a steal of home on a ball in the dirt, giving Izard County a heart-stopping 5-4 win.
