Pocket sized miniature horse born in Mt. Pleasant
Pocket, the miniature horse, was born on Saturday, May 6, in Mt. Pleasant. Because of his tiny stature, they named him Pocket, as in something that is “pocket sized.” He’s the smallest miniature horse that the owners, Chris and Jeannie Zirkle, have ever bred out of the five babies that they have yielded. Jeannie noted that, “he’s so tiny, he fits under your arm like a small dog.” At the time of birth, he wasn’t able to nurse, so he was fed by Chris, using a syringe. After 24 hours, he was able to begin nursing with his mother, Kimmie Sue.
This is the only baby that they currently have, but they are expecting their other mare to give birth within approximately a month.
The stud is their other miniature horse, Bruford. They have two other studs.
On average, a miniature horse will weigh 14 pounds at birth, and range from 22 inches to 36 inches tall.
