Deal accepted in child pornography case

A man facing more than 20 counts of possession of child pornography was sentenced to 96 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections Aug. 1 by Judge Harold Erwin.

According to a sentencing order filed at the Sharp County Courthouse, Robert James McCallie, 49, took a plea deal reducing the counts of possession of child pornography drastically.

Initially, McCallie was in court to answer for 37 separate offenses including two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, two counts contributing to the delinquency of a minor, one count theft of property, two counts criminal mischief in the second degree, one count obstructing governmental operations and 30 counts distributing, possessing or viewing of matter depicting sexual conduct involving a child.

28 counts of the distributing, possessing or viewing of matter depicting sexual conduct involving a child were nolle prossed as well as many of the other pending charges.

He pleaded guilty to two counts distributing, possessing or viewing of matter depicting sexual conduct involving a child, class C felonies and was sentenced to eight years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections as well as a suspended sentence of 15 years.
