Richard “Jerry” Montgomery
Richard “Jerry” Montgomery was embraced by the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the age of 74. Jerry was born on Jan. 30, 1944 in Gordo, Ala. He retired from Conwood Company after 30 years as a sales representative; was in the ministry for 43 years in Memphis and First Baptist Church of Ash Flat in Ash Flat, Ark. He was an avid fisherman, but first and foremost a man of God, and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all who ever met him.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. and funeral services will be on Wednesday, Aug. 22 beginning at 2 p.m., all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tenn., concluding with military honors from the Tennessee National Guard. Entombment will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery. All the services will be led by his brother Timothy Montgomery and best friend Dick Evans.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents John and Sarah Montgomery and Bertha Swindle. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 20 years Linda Montgomery; daughters Melinda (Paul) Baker, Jeanetta (Matthew) Jerden; son James Perkins; sister Joyce Ann (Roger) Fred; brothers Timothy (Shannon) Montgomery, Bobby (Judy) Swindle & Ken (Jill) Swindle; grandchildren Samantha, Michael, Emily, Olivia, Luke, Greyson and Solaire and four great-grandchildren.
