Viola City Council hears citizen concerns
Viola City Council met Aug. 13 with the following present: Mayor Jackie Estes, Councilmen Vearl Downum, Robert Wray, Jerry Allen, Robert Lash, Dennis Harber, Bookkeeper Sarah Huett and Water Supt. Joel Huett. The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Mayor Estes.
Jerry Allen made a motion to approve the minutes and financials as presented. Robert Lash seconded the motion, passed 5-0.
Concerning the proposed sewer system, the mayor reported that an application for the treatment facility has been signed and is being sent to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
Water Superintendent Joel Huett presented copies of his report with the financial statements for the Water Department for the month of July and the adjustments to the July bills were distributed to the Council. Dennis Harber made a motion to approve the July adjustments to the water bills. Jerry Allen seconded the motion, passed 5-0.
There were four citizens at the meeting. Items of concern included the noise of parked semi tractors idling all night long and possibly the need for an ordinance dealing with garbage piled outside of homes for extended periods. The council welcomed Mrs. Elizabeth Worsham, the owner of the Pharmacy Barn, to the meeting. We are looking forward to the anticipated September opening.
Vearl Downum made a motion to adjourn at 7:30 p.m. Robert Lash seconded the motion, passed 5-0.
