Thayer man victim of email scam

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

A Thayer man was recently the victim of a phishing scam as were many of the contacts in his email account. An email was sent via his account asking for money via iTunes cards. Two of the people contacted through this false email were scammed into sending money.

The scammers seem to access personal email accounts and use information gathered convincingly enough to make it seem like it is the individual from the email account.

These scams come from places across the world and the money often goes out of the United States.

It is a reminder to be extra cautious when checking email and on the internet in any way.
