Viola fundraiser pulls in over $10,000 for park
A fundraiser was held Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Viola School to raise funds to enhance the physical properties at Viola Park. The fundraiser consisted of the following: yard sale, donation pulled pork dinner, auction and the sale of raffle tickets.
Modern Woodmen of America donated matching funds of $2,500. The total amount raised during the whole event was $11,585. Organizers of the event were amazed at how well the Viola and surrounding communities came together for the success of the event.
The day ended with a special dedication. The Viola Park will now be called Estes Park. Mayor Jackie Estes has put his hear, soul and time into making the park a place for all to enjoy. The organizers also wanted to recognized him for his dedication to Viola. The indoor training facility was dedicated to ALLSTEEL for their generous donations throughout the years. The baseball field was dedicated to the Brow family. The Brown family has contributed time, money, dozers, backhoes and hours of labor to the fields at the park.
At this time, only three dedications were made. The committee recognizes there are several deserving individuals and families who have contributed to the park in various ways. “The love and dedication of so many in this area is exactly what makes the Viola community a special place,” said a committee member. The committee thanks everyone who was involved in the success of the fundraiser.
