Lady Longhorns

The Viola Lady Longhorns saw their winning streak end at 21 as they lost to the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets 44-41 in tournament action. Mountain View is currently 11-1 for the season.

The Lady Longhorns defeated Dumas 77-45, scoring 13 three-pointers along the way, in the Cornerstone Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament in Berryville and were scheduled to meet Mountain View in the championship game. The previous day, Viola had defeated Green Forest 57-25 to advance to meet Dumas.

The Lady Longhorns were recently 5-0 at home; 9-0 away and 7-1 at neutral sites. Viola has outscored opponents 1,289 to 815 and had a 21-game winning streak before losing to Mountain View. The Lady Longhorns are scheduled to appear in the Kell Classic at Swifton on Saturday, Jan. 4.

In one poll, Viola was ranked 2nd in the state behind Batesville. In the Springfield Rankings of area schools, the Lady Longhorns were ranked first. They also held a top ranking in Class 1A followed by Concord in second; Mt. Vernon-Enola in third; West Side (Greers Ferry) in fourth and Emerson in the fifth position.


Recently, the Viola Longhorns record stood at 17-3 overall and 8-1 in conference. In one recent poll, the Longhorns were ranked 51st in the state. In the Springfield Rankings of area schools, Viola was ranked 12th. In 1A Classification, the Longhorns were seventh with Izard County on top and Nevada in second (the two teams that met for the state championship last year). Hillcrest (Strawberry) is third.
