New turnout gear for Thayer Fire Department
Thayer Fire Department recently purchased new turnout gear thanks to a grant that City of Thayer Grant Writer Jean Pace was able to acquire for the city.
The USDA grant was in the amount of $23,000 allowing the department to purchase 15 complete sets of turnout gear including helmets, jackets, pants, boots and gloves from Davidís Fire Equipment in Arkansas.
Thayer rural and city fire departments halved the cost of the contribution to the 15 percent match amount the grant required.
Replacing the old turnout gear was more than needed. Gear is typically good for 10 to 12 years and the old gear was approximately 20 years old and is not as effective protection for an already dangerous job once the gear has surpassed dates stamped on them.
