Fatal accident claims life of SHS employee
A head on collision claimed the life of one, leaving four injured on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 6, west of Salem on US Hwy. 62 in Fulton County.
Diane Tyler, 37, of Caufield, Mo., was traveling east on US Hwy. 62 in a 2006 Chevrolet. Tyler crossed the center line and struck a 2015 Kia, driven by Ashley Bateman, 34, of Horseshoe Bend.
Tyler was pronounced dead and taken to Barker Funeral Home, according to the Arkansas State Police crash report. Also according to the report, two minors were in the vehicle with Tyler and reported to have injuries. Bateman and her passenger, Tena Smith, 61, of Salem, were also listed as injured.
Trooper Johnathan Arnold investigated the scene of the accident and lists weather conditions as clear and road conditions were dry at the time of incident.
Though the crash report listed Tyler as a Caufield resident, her obituary prepared by Barker Funeral Home stated she was a resident of Salem. She worked for the OPAA food services as Salem High School Cafeteria Manager. Parents and students alike have expressed their sadness and sympathy for her family during this time.
Salem School District Superintendent Wayne Guiltner also confirmed she worked as a custodian during the summer. “She was well liked by students and faculty. Diane had a great work ethic and she will be missed by all,” said Guiltner.
