Fulton County Quorum Court met for a special meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The purpose of the meeting was to declare the vacancy of Fulton County Assessor and to make an appointment. Lavenia Goodson was unanimously appointed.

Fulton County Assessor Brad Schaufler recently announced his retirement and served his last day in office Monday, Nov. 30. Schaufler served as assessor for 12 years. He took office Jan. 1, 2009.

Once roll call of JPs was done by Fulton County Clerk Vickie Bishop, Judge Gary Clayton asked for those interested in the appointment to stand. Goodson was the only one present interested in the appointment.

“I am Lavenia Goodson. I have served as the chief deputy assessor for the last 11 years. I’ve worked for the county courthouse for 28 years and I would like the appointment please.”

A motion was made by JP Johnny Moody to adopt the resolution declaring the position vacant and to appoint Lavenia Goodson as Fulton County Assessor.

The appointment was effective immediately. Due to being appointed, Goodson will not be eligible to run for election. She will serve out the remaining term of Fulton County Assessor, which will end Dec. 31, 2022.
