Cavemen edged in district finals

Thursday, April 30, 2009

The Flippin Bobcats held off Cave City 4-3 in the 3A-1 East District Tournament championship game April 20 in Harrison.

Cave City was down 4-2 in the seventh inning when Jeremy Johnson singled and then later scored on a triple by Jacob Odom, pulling the Cavemen within one run.

But that was as close as Cave City could get and the Bobcats took top honors in the district tournament with the 4-3 victory.

Johnson and Dalton Carpenter logged two hits apiece in the title game, while Dalton Bell drove in two runs.

Earlier in the day, the Cavemen slipped past Valley Springs 8-7 in the semi-final round.

Cave City scored seven runs in the top of the fifth, but Valley Springs made things interesting with a rally that logged six runs in the bottom of the seventh, before ultimately falling short.

Carpenter blasted a grand slam in the game, while Garrett McSpadden and Adam Gann each racked up two hits each.

Gann drove in three runs in the game.

The Cavemen were dropped by the Rivercrest Colts, 11-0, in the first round of the 3A Region 3 Tournament April 25 at Tuckerman.
