Thayer Bobcats start season 3-1

On Aug. 28, the Thayer Bobcats opened the season at home and lost to the Hayti Indians 40-28.
On Sept. 4, the Bobcats traveled to Highland, Ark., to face the Rebels and came away with a win 36-0. Thayer put 29 points on the scoreboard in the first half while holding Highland scoreless. The Bobcats added 7 points in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
The Bobcats traveled to Liberty (Mountain View, Mo.) to meet the Eagles in a conference game. Thayer won the game with its second shutout of the season 27-0. The Bobcats scored 6 points in the first quarter and added 8 points in the second quarter to lead at halftime 14-0. Thayer scored 6 points in the third quarter to complete the scoring for the evening.
The Bobcats were at home on Sept. 18 to play the Salem (Missouri) Tigers in a conference matchup. Thayer won the game 48-6 to advance to 2-0 in conference. The Bobcats led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. Thayer added 12 points in the second quarter while holding the Tigers scoreless and led 19-6 at halftime. The Bobcats took what appeared to be a commanding lead (41-6) at the end of the third quarter by scoring 22 points in the quarter. Thayer added 7 points in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
The Bobcats were scheduled to travel to Houston to play the Hilltoppers on Sept. 25 in a non-conference game, but the game was not played due to some Houston players testing positive for Covid-19.
Up next, Thayer is scheduled to play the Cabool Bulldogs on Oct. 2 at home in a conference game.
