The Pickren Hall Community Cemetery in Viola will have their Memorial Day Decoration Dinner on Sunday, May 30 with dinner being served at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Donations for the maintenance of our cemetery are greatly appreciated and can be mailed to the Bank of Salem. For more information, contact Sheery at 870-371-2298.
The Flint Cemetery Association will hold its annual business meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30.
Recently, Salem High School student Katie Fish received recognition for her science project “The Psychological Effects of Absent Fathers” winning a scholarship for the project at the International Science and Engineering Fair held in Atlanta, Ga.
In the 1800s, peonies were one of the few flowers in bloom in late May. After the Civil War, mourners used peonies to adorn the graves of fallen soldiers on Decoration Day, which we now call Memorial Day.
Country Quilters Quilt Guild will meet on Wednesday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. at Miller Hickinbotham building in Salem, Ark. The business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with a luncheon prepared by some of our members to follow. At this meeting, we will be bringing UFO’s (unfinished projects we are working on) to show. This will be our first meeting for the new officers and begins our new year. Anyone interested in sewing and quilting is welcome to attend.

The House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee met jointly with the Senate Children and Youth Committee this week to hear from groups actively working to combat human trafficking.
In a fund raising event for the North Arkansas Dance Theatre, a non- profit performing troupe, the NADT Dance Academy will be presenting “The Little Mermaid.” The performance will be Friday, May 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Ozarka College. Admission is $5. All proceeds will go to the non profit North Arkansas Dance Theatre.
After two years of COVID-19 and COVID-19 related shut downs, the New Viola Masonic Lodge is very pleased to be giving away scholarships once again. Congratulations to Preslee Dillinger and Aubrey May, who were the recipients of the scholarships this year. Also, congratulations to all the 2022 Viola Senior class.
