Capitol Week in Review

Last year the legislature enacted a series of new election laws, and four of them were challenged in court by plaintiffs who argued that they restricted voting rights. In March the four new laws were stricken by a circuit judge after a trial of four days.

Ozark Gateway announces Regional Tourism Awards

The Ozark Gateway Tourist Council held its annual tourism appreciation banquet at the Main Street Loft on Thursday, April 28. Guest Speaker Nicholas Bertucci spoke about his journey from military life to being a tourism owner, operator and host to guests in our region. Kim Williams, a travel writer for Arkansas Tourism, spoke about the 2024 Total Eclipse and informed attendees about being prepared for this huge event. The event featured the presentation of this year’s local tourism finalists and award winners recognizing the outstanding efforts of businesses, media, and individuals to promote tourism in the region.

Spring Junior Livestock Show entry deadline

Fulton County Fair officials remind exhibitors that entries for the Spring Junior Livestock Show scheduled for May 21 should be pre-registered by May 15. The online entry program will shut down at midnight on this date and exhibitors will not be able to enter online. Go to http://fultonsjls. fairwire.com for a list of classes and make online entries. All entry fees should be paid online with a credit or debit card.

Sharp County Library Board to hold meeting

The Sharp County Library Board will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, May 18 at 1 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Sharp County Library in Hardy. Library board members will speak with attendees and answer questions regarding changes to library policies and services. Board members are interested in listening to the comments of the general public and regular library patrons about the Sharp County libraries and their role in the community.
