Suspect in Koshkonong shooting to stand trial

On April 10, 2021 an unthinkable tragedy happened in an otherwise quiet community. The setting was the Snappy Mart in Koshkonong, Mo. located on Hwy. 63 around 5 a.m., a place where people come in to get their coffee, their morning’s fare and go about their day. The tragedy on that otherwise normal day was a sudden inexplicable brutal shooting of customers by a man with a hand gun.

Governor Hutchinson commutes the sentence of a convicted murderer from Fulton County

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has announced he is commuting the sentences of several convicted felons, including a convicted murderer from Fulton County. The governor’s announcement Wednesday, May 4 included Bryan E. Dickinson who was convicted of first degree murder in Fulton County in 2000. He was sentenced to 480 months in the state prison system and was housed at the Brickeys Unit in eastern Arkansas.

Cherokee Village SID unexpectedly undergoes a post-election change-up of commissioners

The Cherokee Village (CV) Suburban Improvement District (SID) met on April 18 for their regular monthly meeting at 3 p.m. at the CV North Golf Course. Commissioner Tim Lee opened the meeting, with Commissioner Jim Best and newly elected Commissioners Ron Page, David Nebel and Joe Kaiser at the table. General Manager (GM) Betsy Waugh was also present. The minutes from the February meeting were approved, as was the current meeting’s agenda. Lee gave a warm welcome to the new commissioners which was followed by a round of applause from the audience.

Fulton County Master Gardeners Tender Tulip Project

Every spring for the last several years the Fulton County Master Gardeners has marked the coming of spring with a tulip display for all the residents of Fulton County to enjoy. These beds of tulips are usually some of the first signs of spring. After the long gray days of winter, they are quite a welcome sight to our local landscape! Last year this group planted 6,000 tulip bulbs at the main intersection in Salem on the FNBC and North Arkansas Electric properties that these local businesses so generously allow the Master Garden ers to use.

Newberry seeks re-election
