The Stop the Cycle Spay/Neuter Assistance Group puts on fundraisers to help raise money, primarily in Fulton and Sharp Counties, to help provide vouchers toward spay/neuter surgeries in the area. On Saturday, May 7, Stop the Cycle is hosting their first annual golf tournament at Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend.
Dixie Harris is a name many citizens of Salem will fondly remember. I personally did not know her as I am relatively new to the Salem community. I was struck, however, by a piece posted on Facebook, written by another wonderful attribute for the Salem and Fulton County communities, Carolyn Lewis. Her tribute to Harris was so deeply heartfelt, I wanted to share it with local folks who may not be Facebook followers.

On Thursday, April 28, the Izard County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a vehicle accident near a home on Hawk Lane in Horseshoe Bend. A pedestrian was reported to have been involved.
The Arkansas Crime Victims Reparations Board is one of the smallest and least known state agencies, but it helps thousands of people every year. Last year the board awarded claims to 1,900 crime victims, 1,335 were victims of sexual assault and 565 were victims other crimes.

During the in-state work period I had the opportunity to travel across the state and meet with hardworking Arkansans, small business owners and local leaders. No matter where I was, the topics of concern were the same: border security, skyrocketing inflation, high cost of energy and labor shortages. These economic challenges gripping the nation are impacting families, businesses and communities and we’re all making adjustments.
Covid-19 cases continue to decline in our area but the new variant which has arisen has not reached us. There are still questions as to how serious the new variant may be and how effective the vaccine is against it. Also, questions are being raised about the need for an additional booster. Again, consult with your primary health provided before making decisions about your personal well-being.
Robert Ring, 67, of Cave City, Ark., died April 24 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City, Ark.
Kenneth Davis, 73, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died April 24 at his residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland, Ark.
