The Ash Flat Fire Department

The Ash Flat Fire Department visited The Martin Center on Monday, May 23. Fire Chief Adam Bates and Firefighter Chuck Crowe showed clients the fire truck and emergency equipment used when an emergency arises. Clients then had a question-and-answer session where Bates and Crowe explained how some of their equipment was used in emergencies. TMC Program Director Vickie Foster said the clients really enjoyed the visit. The Martin Center is one of two adult developmental day treatment facilities operated by Network of Community Options, Inc.; the other is New Directions in Batesville. Both centers are certified by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities. Their purpose is to enhance the social lives of adults with developmental challenges who are living independently or semi-independently and help them learn or improve everyday living skills. NCO, Inc. has created an opportunity for adults who attend the center to participate in life skills, communication, socialization, recreational, and prevocational training. This program assists in building character, self-esteem, and responsibility in all of the people it serves.
