Hardy critter says “Do not litter!”

Hardy resident Willow Sharp found this ground hog aimlessly crossing the Hwy. 63 bypass in Hardy on Wednesday afternoon. She stopped and got out of her vehicle and started to lead it off the highway by its canned snout when Hardy Mayor Ernie Rose stopped to help. He warned her about traffic and it wasn’t worth risking her life. Sharp was able to lead the critter off the highway and was going to remove the can, but it quickly scurried off into the woods before she could do so. Mayor Rose sends out a message to everyone everywhere to please think twice when disposing of household garbage. Make sure it is in appropriate containers and not readily accessible to wildlife. Many creatures face enough struggles surviving the blows Mother Nature deals them without having to face unnecessary hazards. Please be thoughtful of the potential endangerment to the surrounding wildlife when disposing of trash, whether from your home or when traveling outside. Photo/ Submitted
