Annual Spooktacular weekend to kick off with Mammoth Spring Homecoming

The annual Spooktacular weekend will begin this year with Mammoth Spring Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 28. The fulfilled weekend will kick off with the Homecoming parade to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street. The Homecoming crowning will be at 5:30 p.m. at Mammoth Spring School with basketball games to follow. After the games a Homecoming dance will be held in the Mammoth Spring School Multi-Purpose Building. On Saturday, Oct. 29 Spooktacular will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be many great games and events for attendees to enjoy including the opportunity to have pictures with the ghoul at the Veterans Park. The annual costume contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Simmons Bank parking lot. A haunted hayride will be offered near Browns Furniture from 4 to 8 p.m.

Great weather, challenging competition and wonderful camaraderie made for a perfect Fall Ball Classic tournament in Cherokee Village

At the Cherokee Village Fall Ball Classic held on Oct. 8 at the South Golf Course, we had an awesome day with some fabulous weather for golf! With a total of 34 teams, we had over 100 players from all over representing Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee and Mississippi.

It’s the middle of October which means autumn is in full swing. Sort of. When we first researched moving here one thing that came up was that we would actually get all four seasons in the calendar year. Then we get here and are told the ole’ cliched line of, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.” But that’s what we just came from. Southwest Kansas had two seasons, summer and winter. Fall and spring tried to pop in but it really didn’t last long. It snowed in May a couple years in a row and just last year in 2021, Christmas day was 75 degrees.
