It is that time of year where a trend I have seen over the years ramps up. I am not sure how it started or by whom, but it is a plague that seems to mostly hit boys of all ages and even a few adults.

A unique partnership was formed between the Highland High School student council and the Hardy Sweet Shop. On Monday, Dec. 19 when the Highland Rebels take on the Forrest City Mustangs in basketball, there will be a Teddy Bear Toss, for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Additionally, all bears or stuffed animals purchased for the toss will be donated to local children for Christmas. According to HHS student council, bears purchased from Spring River Bear Factory inside the Hardy Sweet Shop, will get 10% the purchase. Then during the basketball games, the bears and animals will be tossed to the gym floor and whoever gets closest to the “X” on the floor, will receive the gift card. The game will be held in Highland at the A.L. Hutson Arena with the first game starting at 5 p.m.

Bloomington, Ind.—Cherokee Elementary School announced the achievement of Level 1 certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools. Level 1 certification means Cherokee Elementary School has created a “Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture,” which is the foundation for every level that follows.
When the general election concluded on Nov. 8, amongst the voting was an attempt at a mill increase for the Highland School District, that is seeking to build a new high school facility. That attempt was voted down 2,361 to 1,636.
