Cherokee Village Council moves forward in the direction led by a prosperous mayor who now retires his post

Cherokee Village (CV) City Council met Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at city hall. Mayor Russell Stokes presided over the last council meeting of 2022 and his final council meeting as mayor. The current agenda was accepted after the mayor added another item under new business addressing the correspondence below. The minutes from the November council meeting were also approved by council.

Stuebing residents hold pajama party

Residents of the Russell J. Stuebing Home in Ash Flat had a pajama and nacho party with residents and direct support personnel last week to celebrate Christmas. Gifts were exchanged, karaoke was sung, and a good time was had by all. The guys also made cupcakes and invited River Engles, son of Direct Care Supervisors Michael and Tamera Engles, to have one for his birthday, and then they sang to River.

Bridging the Gap: Helping Arkansans Navigate Federal Agencies

It’s common to hear from Arkansans all over the state about their friends and family members in need of help regarding a problem with a federal government agency. Issues such as securing emergency passports for a family to attend an overseas wedding, obtaining a grave marker to honor a WWII veteran or ensuring a small business gets paid for its government contracted work all represent the type of outreach my office receives over the course of a year. I’m proud of the work my staff provides in getting questions answered and resolving these impasses for constituents.

Strawberry River Chapter Dar

Strawberry River Chapter DAR met Saturday, Dec. 3, with 12 members and two guests in attendance. Following the opening ritual and approval of minutes and the treasurer’s report, updates on three DAR committees were presented: (1) Wreaths Across America. The chapter is a recognized sponsor of WAA; this year we are sponsoring 54 wreaths which will be placed on the resting sites of Veterans buried in the Mountain Home Cemetery.
