During the Fulton County Quorum Court meeting on Jan. 3, the new court with Fulton County Judge Kenneth Crow and the new justices of the peace —Cris Newberry, Dennis Kinder, Al Roork, Gary Phillips, Robert Elliott, Marjorie Rogers, Ray Matthew, Jimmy Marler and Carrie Andrews— presiding, a vote was made to begin auditing local fire departments in the county.

Izard County Consolidated School District announced that two teachers have joined the ranks of eight currently employed educators at the school who have achieved the prestigious title of National Board Certified Teacher. Becoming a National Board Certified Teacher is a rigorous process that can take between one and three years where teachers demonstrate excellence in teaching through the submission of three written portfolios and an exam.
