Recently, Palace Drug Store recognized Ron Myers for his decades of dedication to the pharmaceutical field. Myers, who was raised on a farm, was inspired to become a pharmacist after working on the farm all through high school. “I just thought there was an easier better way of making a living and that is what I decided to do,” said Myers. After graduating from high school at 16 years old, Myers attended University of Missouri – Kansas City SchoolofPharmacy.Hegraduated from pharmacy school when he was 22 years old. Since Myers began 50 years ago in the pharmaceutical industry, may things have changed. “A lot of the laws have changed and of course we have a lot more new meds and you have to keep up on those. It has changed a bunch in the 50 years that I have been here. I can remember years ago we would fill a lot of meds that are not even on the market [anymore]. It has really changed,” said Myers. Beingapharmacistismore than just a job to Myers as he cares about his patients. “My patients, I have always considered them my friends. I am interested in them, their families, their kids, their grandkids and I consider them friends. That is the reason I am here today. I see people come in here every day with their kids and I gave them suckers for all their life and they are still staying with me,” said Myers. Even though he has been a pharmacist for 50 years, Myers still does not have any plans to retire any time soon. Myers and his wife, Janet, ran Myers Pharmacy in Mammoth Spring for 40 years before selling to Palace Drug Store. However, this was somewhat of a full circle milestone for Myers who started working at Palace Drug Store fresh out of college. “I thought it was time, age wise, to retire. I had every intention to retire, and I sold out to Palace Drug Store. My contract said I was to work 30 days to draw my customers and everything in and it just kept going past 30 days and past six months and past a year and I will be here seven years in August.
The Fulton County Fair is looking for sponsors to help the fair offset the cost of the Kids Carnival. The fair will not be having the traditional carnival with the $25 armband prices and the expensive games and food booths that they bring in. However, there will be an old-fashioned carnival with games, blow-ups, pony rides, petting zoo, and more. Many of the games will be free or have a very small charge. The blow-ups and petting zoo are free and the pony rides will be discounted to $5 per ride. This is an excellent opportunity for civic clubs, school groups, 4-H clubs, and others to do fund raising by having a game booth. The business community can showcase their business with a game booth or just an information booth. We will have a few carnival food booths such as ice cream, funnel cakes or snow cones. Contact the Fulton County Fair Office at 870895-5565 or email or message us for more information. The fair email is fultoncountyfair1@gmail.com.
